Bleached Starch (E1403): What It Is and Is It Safe?
Native starch treated with food-grade bleaching agents such as hydrogen peroxide, sodium hypochlorite, or potassium permanganate to improve whiteness and colour consistency. Bleaching also slightly oxidises starch chains, improving the clarity and stability of starch pastes. Residual bleaching agents are strictly limited by regulation. Considered safe by EFSA.
