Our mission

We started Scrannr in 2026 to fix a problem we kept running into ourselves. Most food-scanner apps are built around US or European product data, so British groceries fail to scan or return thin, unreliable information. Supermarket own-brands are the worst hit. We thought UK shoppers deserved better.

We built Scrannr for UK shelves. Scan a barcode and you get a clear 0–100 health score from the product's nutrition and ingredients, plus a detailed additives database that flags anything worth a second look. When a product scores badly, Scrannr shows you better-scoring alternatives at the supermarkets you already use.

The goal is narrow and practical: give UK shoppers an honest read on everyday food, without decoding the back of every packet. We don't sell your data, and you can start scanning without an account.

How the app works

Scrannr looks up each product in Open Food Facts, a free, open, community-built food database, then turns that data into something you can read in seconds:

1. Scan any food or drink barcode — no typing, no searching.
2. See what's inside: a 0–100 health score, a nutrition breakdown, allergen data on file, and ingredient or additive flags.
3. Choose with confidence, or tap through to better-scoring alternatives.
