Riboflavin-5'-Phosphate (E101A): What It Is and Is It Safe?
Safe
Colour · Natural colour
Riboflavin-5'-phosphate is the water-soluble phosphate ester of vitamin B2, used to impart a yellow colour and as a vitamin source. The body readily hydrolyses and metabolises it to riboflavin, an essential nutrient. EFSA's 2013 re-evaluation concluded it is unlikely to be of safety concern at the authorised food-additive use levels.
