Chloropentafluoroethane (E945): What It Is and Is It Safe?
Chloropentafluoroethane (CFC-115) is a chlorofluorocarbon that was permitted as a propellant and aerating agent for foamed and sprayed foods. As an ozone-depleting CFC it has been phased out under the Montreal Protocol and is effectively obsolete in food use. It is inert and of low ingestion toxicity, but was discontinued on environmental grounds.
