Perlite is an expanded volcanic aluminosilicate glass used mainly as a filtration aid for beverages and as an anti-caking agent. It is chemically inert and insoluble, and is largely removed during filtration or passes through the gut unabsorbed. No credible evidence of harm exists at the levels encountered in food.
