Magnesium Hydroxide Carbonate (E504II): What It Is and Is It Safe?
A mixed basic magnesium carbonate, typically 4MgCO₃·Mg(OH)₂·5H₂O. The most common commercial form of "magnesium carbonate" used in food and supplements. Used as an anti-caking agent and acidity regulator. Provides a source of dietary magnesium. Considered safe by EFSA and FDA. At very high supplemental doses magnesium can have a laxative effect, though this is not relevant at normal food-additive use levels.
