Powdered Cellulose (E460II): What It Is and Is It Safe?

Safe Anti-Caking Agent / Dietary Fibre

Mechanically ground plant cellulose (wood pulp or cotton linters) processed into a fine powder. Used as an anti-caking agent to prevent grated cheeses and powdered foods from clumping, as a bulking agent in low-calorie products, and as a source of insoluble dietary fibre. Non-digestible and generally considered safe by EFSA and FDA. Very high doses could theoretically reduce mineral absorption by binding minerals in the gut, but this is not a concern at typical food-use levels.
