Flavoxanthin is a naturally occurring yellow xanthophyll carotenoid found in plants such as buttercups and dandelions. Carotenoids of this type are non-toxic at food levels. It is not on the EU/UK list of permitted food colours as a standalone additive, where lutein E161b is the only permitted xanthophyll colour.
