Synthetic sweetener approximately 20,000 times sweeter than sugar — the most potent approved sweetener. Structurally related to aspartame but unlike aspartame it does not require a phenylketonuria (PKU) warning. EFSA and FDA have assessed it as safe. Relatively new and under-studied compared to older sweeteners.
