Limited risk
Emulsifier · Polyoxyethylene emulsifier
A nonionic emulsifier made by condensing stearic acid with about eight units of ethylene oxide, giving a polyoxyethylene or PEG ester. JECFA set a group ADI of 0-25 mg/kg body weight and concluded it is not carcinogenic; urinary-bladder stones and associated tumours appeared in rats only at extreme dietary levels above 20 percent, and a laxative effect occurs at high intakes.
