Disodium Phosphate (E339II): What It Is and Is It Safe?

The di-basic sodium salt of phosphoric acid (Na₂HPO₄). Widely used as an emulsifying salt in processed cheese and as a buffering agent in instant products. High cumulative phosphate intake from multiple processed food sources is associated with kidney damage and cardiovascular disease risk. Safe for healthy adults at typical dietary levels.
