Ascorbyl Stearate (E305): What It Is and Is It Safe?
Ascorbyl stearate is a fat-soluble ester of ascorbic acid and stearic acid that protects oils and fats from oxidation and hydrolyses back to these normal dietary components. In the EU it is authorised under the number E304ii as one of the fatty acid esters of ascorbic acid, and EFSA's 2015 re-evaluation raised no safety concern at reported uses. The standalone number E305 is not used in the EU system.
